‘Rocky Kekeno' - The Snares

The reference photo for this print was taken at The Snares, an island group south of Stewart Island named because they looked like a major shipping hazard! This is one of my favourite pieces to paint. I loved the colours and the organic textures of the seaweed. Going up to The Snares was the first time in our trip we saw seals instead of sea lions and I finally knew the difference between them which is a little appalling on my part as I majored in marine biology at university. This piece was created as a triptych with ‘Rocky Tomtit’ and ‘Rocky Penguins’ to create a series titled ‘Rockpool Rendezvous’.
